Divija Melally

Divija Melally is currently studying dance at Bath Spa University, UK. She has trained in Bharatnatyam for 20 years now, under the tutelage of Gurus Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran in Bangalore, India. She has completed a two year diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media from Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bangalore, where she has learnt from and worked with various Indian and international artists. She has also briefly learnt kathak at Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography in Bangalore, which was set up by Dr. Maya Rao. She has a teacher training certification in Yoga from Yoga Alliance US.

Why do you do what you do?

I believe in using my training and performance to shed light on the issues in society. I want to create awareness and bring about change through my works. 

What’s your role in SparkFest?

I am performing a solo dance piece, Mirage, for SparkFest. It will be held on the Saturday, June 5, at Widcombe Social Club, Bath.
